About the Workshops

Sticky Fingers has been created out of the desire to turn an English Class into something a bit different and to encourage children to eat varied and healthy foods. Sticky Fingers run interactive, fun with food workshops for children in nurseries, schools *AMPA, summer camps, markets and community centres  in the Barcelona area.

Sticky Fingers workshops stimulate English learning in a natural way by providing creative extra curricular activities in English.  The aim is for children to enjoy English learning without text books and to have fun with food during the process. All lesson plans are designed with a language aim suitable for the age and English level of the students. The workshops feature exciting new foods, activities, songs and teaching strategies which provide children with a fun experience, helping them to discover how much fun healthy foods can be. The children learn to explore choice and personal preference and are encouraged to employ descriptive language and expand vocabulary in English.
The types of workshops are:
Take `N´ Bake - children prepare food to take home, cook and share with their family.
Taster Class     -  food is prepared and eaten during the workshop

Mission

The aim of Sticky Fingers is to provide an environment in which children can happily learn English in a natural way, while doing an enriching activity.  The ¨hands-on¨ workshops provide unique opportunities for kids to express their creativity. At Sticky Fingers, children learn by doing and are encouraged to try new healthy foods so they continue exploring with food well into adulthood.
Sticky Fingers workshops are designed to get children interestested in eating healthy foods with carefully integrating EFL Teaching.(English as a Foreign Language)
It´s proven especially with learning languages the importance of children being active during the learning process and that small groups provide a low-anxiety environment. Smaller groups promote child oral language development therefore workshops are recommended for a maximum of 8 children, in the case of School Workshops a maximum of 15.

The workshops are tailored to age groups for example smaller children are not involved with food preparation such as cutting and more songs and games are used to re-in force new language.  Older children are required to be involved with food preparation, they also learn more about where the food comes from and why the foods are important for our bodies.

The goals of the workshops:

  • To promote an active desire in children to communicate in English
  • To develop interest and enjoyment in learning English
  • A positive experience with healthy food

  • An Interactive learning experience

  • Hands-on food and nutrition education

  • Children explore, prepare and enjoy fresh healthy foods.

  • Engaging, inspiring, educating and motivating kids to eat well

  • Expose children to a variety of healthy food choices

  • Encourage but never forced to try new food

  • Age appropriate workshops -  in terms of content and level of English

After each session children take away their Sticky Fingers worksheet home to show parents their food creations.

Tasting the food is always voluntary, children choose to eat the food or not.  Requiring children to taste new foods may make them resistant to eating a variety of foods.
